Cleaning agents overview: alkaline, acidic, disinfection
There are two kinds of soiling in a beer line – and two kinds of cleaner for them. An alkaline cleaner dissolves organic deposits, an acidic one mineral deposits. Here you can see which product is for what and how to use it correctly.
Alkaline or acidic?
| Alkaline (basic cleaning) | Acidic (intensive cleaning) | |
|---|---|---|
| removes | hop resins, protein, biofilm and other organic deposits | beer stone, limescale and other mineral deposits |
| when | for regular cleaning | regularly, alternating with alkaline cleaning |
| products | Bevi Tab alkaline, Bevi Power alkaline, Bevi Power Plus, Bevi Liquid Clean, TM Desana Max cl | Bevi Tab acidic, Bevi Power acidic, TM Desanacid |
In addition there are disinfectants for daily care at the tap and cleaners with a colour indicator that show when the line is clean.
Which product when?
- Simple and without measuring (at home, in clubs): Bevi Tab alkaline, alternating with Bevi Tab acidic.
- With cleaning device and sponge balls (catering): Bevi Power alkaline and acidic – or Bevi Power Plus if you also want to disinfect.
- Heavily soiled lines: Bevi Liquid Clean or TM Desana Max cl.
- Seeing whether the line is clean: TM Desana Max, Desana Max cl or Desanacid with colour indicator.
- Daily at the tap: tap cleaning bellows with Bevi NeutroDes.

How to use cleaning agents correctly
- Pre-rinse the line with clean water.
- Dissolve powder or tablet completely in lukewarm water – never put tablets into the line undissolved.
- Keep to the dosage and contact time stated on the pack.
- Then rinse thoroughly with drinking water.
- Check with pH indicator paper: only when the rinse water has the same pH as drinking water may beer be tapped again.
- Wear protective gloves and safety goggles, acid-resistant gloves with acidic cleaners.
- Never mix cleaners. In particular, never bring chlorine-containing products (TM Desana Max cl) together with acidic cleaners – this can release toxic chlorine gas. Rinse thoroughly with water between alkaline and acidic cleaning.
- Use biocidal products safely; always read the label and product information before use.
- Used solution can be disposed of with the rinse water into the sewer in accordance with local regulations.
- Store cool, dry and out of the reach of children.
